Oh, the joy of green beer!Have a great St. Patty's weekend everyone!
St. Patrick's Day, although not a legal holiday anywhere in the United States, is nonetheless widely recognized and celebrated throughout the country. It is primarily observed as a celebration of Irish and Irish American culture; celebrations include prominent displays of the color green, feasting, copious consumption of alcohol, religious observances, and numerous parades. The holiday has been celebrated on the North American continent since the late eighteenth century. -Wikipedia.com

National Cheese Doodle Day!!!As most of you don't know, today is National Cheese Doodle Day!!!
"Cheese Doodles have long been America's favorite bright orange snack. First introduced to the world as Cheese Pixies in the 1950s, the total volume of Cheese Doodles produced each year could fill 36 swimming pools. Oddly enough, the Cheese Doodle swimming pool 100 meter relay isn't catching on as well as the snack itself." - TheUltimateHolidaySite.com
To commemorate this day, I present you with a cheesy snack feature! ENJOY!

Artists: Born or Created? Are artists born or are they created?
These are questions that has been debated throughout human history. Are certain individuals somehow given a trait at birth that allows them to excel at creativity? What about others that desire to become an artist? Can these individuals be taught the skills necessary to become an artist. Or, is it a melding of both inborn talent and knowledge gained from the study of artistic techniques?
The poll: What do you think?
"Are artist created or born?"
Becoming an artist takes education and practice.
Artists are born with a natural creative ability.
I don't know?
If you have not participated,

We decided to take a poll here on deviantART through the #seniormentors group to see what the community thinks on this
SMP Newsletter: March 2013Welcome to the March Newsletter for the Seniors Mentoring Project!
We have lots of great and exciting things to report from the Seniors Mentoring Project! First, is that WhenPigsFry (that's me ) has volunteered to devote way too much time to the project. I will be trying to organize and keep things running around here. Some of you may have seen my first journal entry talking about needing to change a bunch of stuff. I think I came off wrong in it, so I wanted to talk about that really quick.
My intent wasn't to completely overhaul seniormentors but rather discuss what is and isn't working and find ways to improve it! Thanks to the help of LostKitten, WDWParksGal, Astrikos, and many other Senior Members, I have been able to take a look at some areas that need to stay the same and some that needed changed. Some of it has taken place and some is yet to come!
Also, don't think
The Art of DeceptionA quick personal note:
Not that anyone noticed, but I recently took a short 1 month break from deviantART due to the passing of my Grandmother whom I was very close to. During my time away, I have lurked some and tried to keep up-to-date on some of the happenings around the site, but I do still have a stack of messages to go through, but I've had bigger piles before. Anyways, I'm hopefully back and will be trying to get involved a little more over the rest of this month.
Things around deviantART
So, what will I be getting my hands dirty with around the site in coming future? Well, there has been a lot going on over at seniormentors lately. LostKitten has been working her tail off trying to get the group pumped-up and going strong once again. With that, have come many changes to the group and things are still changing. Head over there and watch the group to find out more about the exciting things coming down the pipe! And, if you're a
Artisan CraftsSince it's Artisan Crafts Month on seniormentors, we wanted to introduce you to each of the sub-galleries within Artisan Crafts and show some examples of great art in each of these categories.
The Artisan Craft Gallery is a very expansive category here on devinatART. Ranging from Culinary Arts to Basket Weaving to Woodworking to Jewelry Making and much, much more! Because of this, it may be easy to get lost in the Artisan Crafts Gallery. To help simplify, an Artisan Craft is a physical piece of art made by an artist or a crafter. Many times, the items are unique and one of a kind, other times the items are replicated either exactly like the original or with variations. And, with the fluidity of the subject, you will often times find Artisan Crafters pushing the boundaries and creating extremely innovative artwork.

Want more commissions? This journal is for artists who want to get more commissions, or want to open commissions and never had so they don't know how best to present their art, or even for those artists who took commissions before but would appreciate some more tips
There are a few pretty important things to consider before publicly announcing you're opening commissions:
1. payment method. The deviantart commission widget takes 20% of your profit, but then again more deviants have points so you're likely to get 20% more customers like that. But don't forget there are people who have paypal and don't feel like dealing with points so if you decide to open commissions through deviantart, don't let that be the ONLY payment method.
Paypal is the most common payment method used online and i strongly recommend it. Make a paypal account, connect it to a card and you're ready. But don't forget paypal has a limit of $3000 per year withdrawal. So if you're serious about drawing art for a living and you

Inspiration: youtube artists (part 1)Dear, deviantart fellow artists
Hi - so I'm starting new series of journals with useful resources - mainly because I'm running out of topics to write about and I just like some diversity. (I'll continue to post general art/motivational journals too every now and then)
Here are some of my favorite youtube artists, that inspire me and I hope that these resources might be helpful for you too.
'Level up!' is an idea of two Polish artists - Wojtek Fus ( WojciechFus ) and Darek Zabrocki ( daRoz ), who want to teach and learn from each other. Level Up has expanded a host team by amazing Jonas De Ro (JonasDeRo ) There are weekly, 2 to 3-hours long livestreams with critiques, overpaintings and Q&A's. It's so wonderful to watch them paint and talks about important tips on art and life as an artists. Also check out their
The Illuminated World ContestStock & Resources
Imagine a world where the soft glow of the magnolia blossoms illuminates the sidewalk. The reaching branches of the tree cast their light over the street, reflected in the gathering puddles of a spring rain. A garden nearby is a riot of colors against the deep shadows of the night. The harsh artificial street lights that we know today are gone. What would your world look like? Is it a world where the need for fossil fuel has been eliminated, or have the scientists bio-engineered the earth into a beautiful apocalypse?
The idea of bio-luminescent plant illumination is a real project in progress by three scientists in San Francisco, California. These scientists are engineering marine bio-luminous bacterial DNA into plants to make them glow. You can read more about their project here: Glowing Plants: Street Lig
DYNAMIC AND ACTIVE POSING FOR STOCKStock & Resources
Broadly defined, Action Stock is any photo-reference in which the subject is doing SOMETHING. That 'something' does not need to be extreme or particularly kinetic, it just has to show the effects of various forces on the bodies (or other objects) in the image. Perusing an artifact, sitting on someone's knee, even enjoying the aroma of a cup of coffee are great examples of actions that, when explored as stock images, can be of great value to artists.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with extreme, kinetic, over-the-top actions, either...
~ ~ ~
It's worth stating the obvious: if you are interested in exploring the more "kinetic" end of the action spectrum, know your limits. Don't work beyond your skill level and observe all necessary safety precautions; no shot is worth getting hurt over.
BODIES IN MOTION
In 2007, when I first started paying regular attention to the DD page on this site, I quickly realized that the general photography galleries were being watched over by three ladies with an insane amount of talent in their medium but widely disparate styles and viewpoints - and they were all awesome. Staged, Sandra Keplinger, was this passionate German high-style lady with an eye for cinematographic compositions and journalistic attacks; hellfirediva, Tina The Rabbit Whisperer, was the Macro Queen who loved the colourful and the spunky; and then there was equivoque, Elinor Scott-Sutter, who seemed to be forever on the hunt for the most artistic executions possible. Over the years since then I had the chance to get to know each of them personally, and they all influenced my photography more than I'd ever like to admit. Sandra became an idol to me, and to date she's still one of my favourite photographers in the real world; Tina became a good personal friend, then
